On 14th March, 1915, after their involvement in the Battle of Neuve Chapelle from 10th-12th March, the 13th London battalion of 25 Brigade, 8th Division, relieved the 2nd Middlesex battalion in the front line of the battlefield where, although the fighting had subsided, there was still plenty of shelling by both sides taking place. The Battalion Diary does not go into any further details but it is likely that Wilfred Jenkins, who was killed on 24th March, the day the battalion was relieved, was a victim of this shellfire.
